Skills you should learn

Can I tell you a secret? Nigeria is one country that is continuously evolving. The citizens don’t settle for less; we always want to be in the spotlight. Everybody wants to be able to evolve alongside the world. This means that everyone is adding a skill or two to their arsenal. The skills may not even fetch you money but may help your mental health. Most people go for skills related to their hobbies.

Let’s begin by explaining what a skill truly is, and no, it’s not about following people and not having any fun; skills can be exciting and lucrative. A skill is an ability to do something that comes from a place of experience, practice, and training.

Most of the basic skills learned in Nigeria include;

1. Hairdressing

2. Makeup

3. Cosmetic

4. Baking, etc.

If you are looking for a skill that will bring a sense of adventure and become something you can fall back on, then you may want to use your holiday seasons to learn one or even two of the skills below.

1.      PHOTOGRAPHY:

There is a stereotype around this skill, and that is that photography is for men. In this time and age, anyone with a good eye for beautiful things or someone who knows how to capture them in a way that speaks to another person can be termed a photographer.

With photography, you will tour the world and visit both remote and urban areas. What could be more adventurous than this?! We must add that with photography, you will appreciate the beauty in its purest form. You can even get paid just by doing this and even if you are not in it for the money, think of all the sites you will get to visit, and all the cultures you will be able to experience. If you ask me, that is a true adventure.

2.      PUBLIC SPEAKING:

Most people may shy away from learning this skill because of stage fright, but if you are looking for a way to make an impact in today’s society and want to have fun while doing it, then public speaking is the way to go.

Public speakers are not only motivational speakers. They are people that tell a story in a way that captivates their audience and makes their audience do exactly what they want them to.

Public speakers are always looking for what to inspire them in their next speech, and most of them find this by touring the world, meeting new people, and experiencing a new culture. It is one of the most viable skills that will keep you on the road and will kickstart the adventure you had planned.

3.      FINGER PAINTING:

You don’t need to be the next Michaelangelo to start your painting career. Most people argue that this is more of a talent than a skill, and they are not lying. To perfectly create an image that is beautiful and speaks to the people, it needs to, first of all, speak to you. So with painting, you get to explore yourself. You take yourself on an adventure focused on your life. You find out what you love and what you don’t. All these adventurous tasks are accomplished by learning the skill of painting.

4.      FASHION DESIGNING:

In Nigeria, fashion designing may not be the most high-paying skill to learn. However, all Nigerians know that “we can never be caught unfresh.” This is one of the reasons this skill is highly appreciated in Nigeria. In the past, it was mainly practised by women, but in this time and age, we see men designing beautiful pieces for both men and women. This skill needs creativity which everyone in Nigeria has. The skill also goes the extra length to appreciate our culture and tradition by portraying fashion items for others to see. However, to fully portray this culture, the person learning the skill has to understand it first, and this will lead to an adventurous journey into the discovery of different cultures.

5.      BEADING:

One thing about Africans, especially Nigerians, they love beads. The reason for this overwhelming love could be because beads portray traditional heritage to some people; to others, it’s just fashion. Beads can come in the form of bracelets, anklets, waist beads, necklaces, and so on. The skill is one of the cheapest to start, and one of the most lucrative. And it also allows you to explore different sectors of Nigeria.

These are some of the skills that can help you explore Nigeria while still practising them. So, make time to learn one of these skills and begin your journey to adventure.
