Raging Sea

by Chinyere Nwosu

The sea rises

on the back of the wind

and floats towards the shore

on the wings of the waves

till the current ends

as the sea slaps the rocks

and washes the sand away

and dares to return to its course

But the pond sits in its narrow space

feeds on the leaves,

the dead bugs, and the mud

It seldom seeps through the cracks on the wall

but holds many lives –

the fish, the frog, and many little bits

Her place remains unchanged

so, she smiles at the sun and spreads out leaves of waterlily

The raging sea speaks

with a loud voice

of things unknown and coasts to discover

She longs for adventure

and prides in its freedom

The sea travels the world

and leaves a mark at every corner

The pond thinks of another rain

and the upward wind with its warm breeze

and the dark heavy clouds that crawl the sky

and the water that falls to fill its bank

But the sea, the river, and the lake

sail in the wind and drum on rocks

harbour the wild and chart new courses

so, she continues to speak in a high tone

The raging sea speaks

with a loud voice

of things unknown and coasts to discover

She longs for adventure

and prides in its freedom

The sea travels the world

and leaves a mark at every corner
