International collaboration is something that boosts the movie industry. Here are some Nigerian Movie Stars That Acted In Hollywood Movies.

Again, we cannot overemphasize the international recognition that the Nigerian movie industry has brought Nigeria. All around the world, we can clearly see that Nigerian movie stars are making waves and partnering with the international entertainment scene.

However, it takes two to tango. So in as much as Nigerian movie stars are collaborating with international movie stars, those stars are also seen in Nigerian movies. Some examples of these international movie stars include; Isaiah Washington, Vivica Fox, and Kim Basinger. These stars have appeared severally in Nigerian movies. But let’s not be derailed. Today we are looking into some of our Nigerian movie stars who have successfully undergone an international collaboration and totally nailed their part in the movie.

 

Olu Jacobs

All Nigerian movie stars owe this man a great deal of gratitude. This is because he paved the way and made it relatively easy for other movie stars to feature in Hollywood movies. In the year 1980, he made his first international appearance in a movie known as ‘Dog of War’. The movie was directed by John Irvin. In the movie, he played the part of a corrupt customs officer.

The year 1985 saw Olu Jacobs make another appearance in the movie ‘Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend.’ In this movie, his role was Colonel Nsogbu.

1986, he appeared in ‘Pirates’, a Roman Polanski’s movie. In this movie, he played the role of Boomako, a pirate who was supposed to save his kidnapped captain.

 

 

Jim Iyke (And Then There Was You, 2013)

In a reinvigorating movie about a young woman who tries to pick up her life after her husband left her for another woman, our Nigerian movie star Jim Iyke played the part of ‘Zuma’ in this romance movie ‘And then there was you.’ This American movie was written and directed by Ghanaian-American filmmaker Leila Djansi. Our movie star had the opportunity of acting alongside key movie stars of the world. The likes of Brian White, Lynn Whitfield, and Garcelle Beauvais.

A hit movie that was released in the year 2022. Most Nigerians were surprised when they saw their favourite movie star appearing in a movie that spoke so dearly to the Black and African society. Apart from Jimmy Odukoya, another movie star from the heart of Benin, Angelique Kidjo is featured in the movie. Already, she has won four Grammy Awards.

The movie is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Also, the original screenplay is written by Dana Stevens. Jimmy Odukoya played the part of Oba Ade in the movie and he did it so perfectly. The movie was acted with Jimmy Odukoya alongside Viola Davis and John Boyega. Lashana Lynch, Thuso Mbedu, and Adrienne Warren also appear in the movie.

 

Osas Ighodaro (Where Children Play, 2015)

Before our movie icon, Osas Ighodara moved to Nigeria in the year 2012, she was already making waves in the movie industry. She starred in a Tyler Perry movie ‘Meet the Browns’. In addition, the movie star had appeared in five American movies and three American TV series before she relocated to Nigeria.
She is mostly known for her role in the movie ‘Where Children Play’. The movie was released in 2015, and she was among the cast.

‘Where Children Play’, was directed by Leila Djansi. In this movie, Osas played the role of ‘Miranda Bailey’, a supportive friend to the main character ‘Macy Gray’, who was played by ‘Teyonah Parris’. Some additional cast of the movie includes Grammy Award winner Macy Gray, Brian White, and Teyonah Parris.

 

Genevieve Nnaji (Farming, 2018)

In this riveting 2019 British movie, Nnaji plays the role of a mother who had to farm her son out to a white woman in hopes of securing a brighter future for him. But as the movie progress, the boy turns out to be a feared leader of a white skinhead gang. In the movie, she played the role of ‘Tolu’, and her son, ‘Enitan’.
A British-Nigerian Producer, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, produced the movie. The award-winning British actress, Kate Beckinsale was featured in the movie. Other casts of the movie include Damon Idris and Gugu Mmbatha-Raw.

We have witnessed Nigerian movie stars make waves when it comes to the movie industry, and we are positive that they will continue to be recognised in more Hollywood movies. We also hope that they will soon be in award-winning Hollywood movies.
